Jasper Steinlein

Jasper Steinlein joined Euractiv with a focus on Energy and Environment in October 2024. He has got over a decade of experience in political news journalism, covering singular events such as acts of terror in the European Union, Brexit, the 2016 and 2020 US election in real time. He was instrumental in establishing and co-leading the Foreign Affairs desk at German public news outlet „Tagesschau“, extensively covering Russia’s 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine and its fallout on and off air. As a seasoned polyglot reporter he has reported many a story from research trips throughout Europe, especially from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. He started working full-time as a journalist with „Süddeutsche Zeitung“ and news agency dpa during his years as a student in Munich, Moscow and Bayreuth. His first experiences in journalism, however, trace back to high-school in the Southern German hinterland. His list of completed fellowships includes the "Journalism Innovators Program“ of 2022 at Hamburg Media School and the "Marion Gräfin Dönhoff Fellowship“ (IJP) 2019 at Novaya Gazeta in Moscow.
