Matthew Karnitschnig

Matthew Karnitschnig has been Euractiv’s Editor-in-Chief since January 2025. Previously, he was Chief Europe Correspondent at Politico, which he joined in 2015 upon its European launch. Prior to that, he spent 15 years at The Wall Street Journal as a reporter and editor in the US and Europe. During his tenure at the Journal, he helped spearhead the paper’s coverage of number of historic financial events, including the fall of Lehman Brothers and the Eurozone crisis. In a career spanning nearly three decades, he has also worked as a staff writer and correspondent for BusinessWeek, Reuters and Bloomberg. A two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist together with his colleagues at the Journal, Karnitschnig is a recipient of the Gerald Loeb Award, the highest honour in American financial journalism, and an Overseas Press Club Award.
