Swedish Migration Minister Johan Forssell is facing mounting political pressure following revelations that his teenage son was involved with far-right extremist circles.
Local Swedish media outlet Expo recently reported that the 16-year-old son of the minister had engaged in online activities connected to AktivKlubb, a violent neo-Nazi organisation.
In an interview with TV4, Forssell – a member of the centre-right Moderate Party – confirmed that Sweden’s security service, Säpo, had contacted him weeks earlier about the matter.
Despite the controversy, Forssell has ruled out resignation. “I’m staying on as minister,” he told TV4, adding that his son was “deeply remorseful” and describing the activities as “concluded.”
Opposition parties, including the Left Party, Social Democrats, and Greens, have called for Forssell to appear before the Swedish Parliament to clarify how the situation was handled and to address potential security concerns.
Forssell, who has long championed stricter accountability for the parents of criminal youth, defended his record: “Parental responsibility doesn’t mean things always go right. Sometimes they go wrong.”
Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch of the Christian Democrats expressed confidence in Forssell, praising his “responsible and humble” response.
