Biosolutions are central to Europe’s green transition. They offer scalable, nature-inspired alternatives to traditional industrial methods, helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions, enhance food security, and protect biodiversity.
A biosolutions coalition has emerged in Europe to advocate for a bold Biotech Act to ensure Europe remains a global leader in the bioeconomy, emphasizing the need for supportive regulation, investment, and innovation.
The European Biosolutions Coalition, a strategic alliance of eleven industry organisations across Europe committed to advancing sustainable, bio-based innovations, has emerged from this cross-sectoral need. Its mission is to accelerate the transition from a fossil-based to a bio-based economy by promoting biosolutions - technologies that harness nature’s own tools, such as microorganisms, enzymes, and fermentation processes, to address major societal challenges.
Advanced biotechnology plays a pivotal role in this movement. By leveraging microorganisms -like bacteria, yeasts, and fungi - biosolutions enable the production of sustainable materials, biofuels, and even pharmaceuticals through precision fermentation and biomanufacturing. These “micro-factories” represent the heart of the so-called biorevolution, where biology and technology converge to create resilient, circular economies.
In essence, the European Biosolutions Coalition is not just a policy advocate—it’s a catalyst for a greener, more competitive Europe powered by the intelligent use of microbial biotechnology.
